Tula Health Projects

Reflecting our long term commitment to health in Guatemala, the Tula Foundation has established a sister non-profit organization, TulaSalud, in Cobán, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, which we fully fund. TulaSalud is entirely staffed and managed by Guatemalans.

TulaSalud has several interrelated objectives:

  • Promote nursing and nursing education, particularly in rural and remote parts of the country.
  • Investigate the role that technology can play in supporting healthcare, particularly in rural and remote areas.
  • Help to channel Canadian medical and technical expertise in ways that strengthen Guatemalan healthcare systems and institutions.

Independent of TulaSalud, the Tula Foundation has also funded ASECSA, a Guatemalan alliance of 60 grassroots community health organizations that address the needs of the population that lacks access to healthcare.  Their programs currently train 2,400 health promoters and midwives from marginal rural and urban communities in Guatemala.
